Countermine/Counter IED Systems
The AN/PSS-14 integrates an improved Metal Detector (MD) and a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) sensor into a single search head coupled to an electronics unit that includes aided target recognition algorithms. The design provides a real-time audio alert to the operator when a mine is detected. This “real-time alert” feature in the software allows the operator to transition freely from soils with differing properties without the need to re-calibrate or adjust. A Built-in-Test (BIT) function notifies the operator of malfunctions or conditions that require immediate attention, such as battery replacement. The AN/PSS-14 provides:
- Enhanced mine detection performance capability for both metallic and low‐metallic antipersonnel and antitank landmines
- Reduced false alarm rate
- Increased capability to operate in soils with high metallic content
